The Fenland Poet Laureate 2012-2017 scheme is a local poetry competition which was run annually between 2012-2017. The winning poet had the opportunity to represent and promote fenland poetry during their year as 'Fenland Poet Laureate'. The competition also has a young people's category, the winner of whom is crowned 'Young Fenland Poet Laureate'.

The scheme was revived in 2019 by a different team. More details are available on the Babylon Arts website, or contact  fenlandpoetlaureateaward@gmail.com

Winning the honorary title of Fenland Poet Laureate for the year is a recognition of talent as well as being a great way to be involved in the local community. The winner has the opportunity to write about local events throughout the year and present poems for special occasions, working local partner organisations to develop ideas for bringing poetry and Fenland together.

The previous Fenland Poet Laureates were Elaine Ewart (2012), Leanne Moden (2013), Poppy Kleiser (2014), Jonathan Totman (2015), Mary Livingstone (2016), and Kate Caoimhe Arthur (2017). Find out more about all of the poets here.

The winner of the 2017 young people's competition was Sophie Lutkin.
